From Video Games that have become progressively global sensations to your local cafe that has your favourite tea. Everyone starts somewhere.

Independent business is everywhere and needs support to build a sense of community both online and offline. This is especially evident in Portsmouth because every small business is quite close to one another location wise strengthening this sense of community even further.

‘Shopping local allows people to pay local employees, and keeps money in the city. - Liz Penman June 11 2020 ("Why supporting local Portsmouth shops is 'more important than ever' ahead of reopening", 2022)

Indie Games
Even purchasing a £3 game off steam helps that person or group of developers grow there skill, assists them financially and helps them improve the game. This then causes there game to progressively gain popularity and lets them grow as a person whilst you, the consumer, gets to enjoy a beautiful game. The now world famous game Among us was originally a Indie game with only 3 developers and was out since 2018 at base level. But now there's different modes, skins, maps and more! This is just a small example of how far supporting Independent business can help people grow.

This also forms a sort of community within the among us fans with memes, videos and YouTubers ever gaining popularity from them. In fact Streamer and music producer Corpse Husband grew his community from Among us and is now continuing to make his own music.

Indie Music
My favourite genre of music, Indie music or also known as Independent music is music produced independently from commercial record labels or their subsidiaries, a process that may include an autonomous, do-it-yourself approach to recording and publishing. When looking for Indie artists to listen to I tend to focus on the emotion behind the singing as well as a good beat. With a DIY attitude without a care for commercial success I find that indie music tends to be more passionate and with various sub genres within Indie music. Such as Indie Rock, Indie pop etc there's just so many different artists to discover. In fact half of the Bands I love now I only discovered this year!

Some bands I recommend are:
-Still Woozy
- Melanie Martinez
- I DON'T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME
-Mother Mother

As an independent artist myself I understand how it feels to have a small community truly appreciate what it's like to have a strong connection with a small community. In fact I've even made friends through commissions.

There are many architectural firms that grow and prosper souley through local means in fact the most well know ones such as Frank Lloyd Wright started small and grew in popularity dramatically over time. It's how us architects can gain a living! The more projects the better in my opinion and I hope that I can grow even a fracture of the amount that Frank Lloyd Wright became.

A list of local Architects:

Remember tho that these are just a few examples of Independent businesses and there are so many more out there. So explore the internet and locally! You never know what you may find...
